took place
at Sandy By The Bay
Trevor Barker Oval, Sandringham
on Friday 15 August 2014
v Following the club’s
1989 amalgamation
with Highett West to become Highett Districts,
and for whatever reason,
a lot of Highett's earlier history was lost,
presumably for all time, including the
club’s  first Federal League Premiership
flag won in 1939, it's next four Federal
League Premiership flags 1971-73-74-79
and the 1972 and 1974 U/14
CDJFL Premiership flags.

However once the Reunion had been announced the
1939 Federal League Premiership flag,
1979 Federal League Premiership flag
and 1974 U/14 CDJFL Premiership flag
were rediscovered and made available to
the reunion organisers.
These items and and a framed 1939 Premiership jumper worn by Kevin Porter’s father Roy Porter, which Kevin had given to the
Reunion Organising Committee were presented to
Ellen Maher, Highett Football Club President,
who assured all attending the reunion that,
having been returned to the club they would forever
occupy a  permanent and honored

position in the club rooms.

.The Highett Football Club in turn surprised the
Reunion organisers when they produced the
1971-1974 Federal League Premiership
flags and the Under 14 1972
Chelsea District Junior Football League
flag on the night of the reunion.

This came as a huge yet very welcome surprise
to everyone as it was long believed that
these flags last seen in 1989, were lost to
the club following it’s merger with
Highett West in 1989.

Visitors to the club will now be able see
the Highett Football Club's
 Federal Districts 1939 Premiership Flag
1939 Premiership jumper,
Federal Football Leagues Premiership flags
1971-74-79,
1979 Federal Football Leagues Premiership Cup
and Chelsea District Junior Football League's
1972-1974 Premiership flags
proudly displayed in the club rooms.

Great and all as the reunion was it is saddened by the news that Warren Vines, whose company we
all enjoyed at the 40th Anniversary Reunion,
passed away suddenly on his
flight home to Brisbane on the 21st August.

Warren will be sadly missed by all who knew him

Thanks to everyone who attended the 40th Anniversary Reunion
especially those who traveled long distances to be there.
Fantastic to see so many faces that many hadn’t seen for 40 years.

Travelers prize Reunion T Shirt and Reunion DVD) went to Colin Dight who came from Cairns to catch up with so many from his days at Highett,

Thanks to all who assisted and participated in the nights activities.

Thanks to those who so generously provided raffle prizes and the reunion program.

Thanks to the Callaghan family, Carolyn (Photos) Tom (Door/Video) Joe (DJ), for volunteering their services for the night

For our part the planning that took place was certainly well worth the effort.

Thanks for being part of such a great occasion.

Just a follow up from the great weekend, firstly congratulations and thanks for a great night on the Friday and your support back at the club on the Saturday…not only was it a reunion for that 'golden era'…it was certainly a reunion of former club greats and the modern day HFC.

Again congratulations and thank you for bringing everyone back together in such a fine fashion.
PS the original 1939 flag and jumper have generated an enormous amount of interest throughout the entire club…many thanks. Andrew HFC

Hi Alan,
Thanks for all your efforts with Darrell and Doug to help me relive those fun days. Richard and I enjoyed the evening and appreciate that it couldn't have happened without heaps of preparation.

I do hope you, the organisers, are now able to reflect on a job well done and many fresh memories from a great get together.
Cheers

Congratulations on putting together that memorable evening last week.

Hi Alan,

Certainly some great photos from the reunion night. Some of the boys have not changed very much and a few have changed a lot.

I love seeing the old jumpers they are great pieces of memorabilia of the footy club I hope the present day club appreciate them?

Glad the night was a success and I'm sure many great stories were told and plenty of reminiscing and just a good catch up with their old footy mates.

DVD arrived this afternoon. I enjoyed it very much and such a great keepsake for so many of us who have nothing but happy memories of the years that were spent up at the H.F.C. To all involved in the work that went into getting the reunion off the ground and making it happen with DVD being the cherry on the top of the cake my sincere congratulations. Dawn Boughton
